Snow Toffee

What do you do after a snowstorm dumps two feet of snow on the ground?

Make Snow Toffee! This has become one of our snowstorm traditions, which, living in the White Mountains, happens quite often during the winter months. It is so yummy and the kids love the whole process, from gathering the snow to joyfully eating it the day after a blizzard.

Ingredients
1 cup brown sugar
1/8 lb butter
1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions
1. Go outside to collect fresh snow on a cookie sheet or a casserole dish (or two). Make sure that the snow is very clean! Set aside for later use.
2. Bring all ingredients to a rolling boil in a heavy pot.
3. Boil till mixture is at the hard ball stage (when dripped into very cold water, it turns into a firm ball).
4. When the mixture has reached the desired temperature, drizzle it over the collected snow. The mixture will cool and harden very quickly.
5.This toffee can be eaten within a few minutes or stored in a cool dry place for a few days.

Skydiving Babe!

Being facilitators of our children's interests we are always looking for ways to bring more of the World to them. We thrive on new adventures and experiences. One of the many adventures of our trip to Florida was visiting Sky Venture Orlando, and trying indoor skydiving. The kids absolutely loved it! Devin called his buddy Liam right after and he said, "Dude! I was flying! It was the coolest thing I have ever done in my entire life!"

Here is Ivy enjoying her first Skydiving lesson. Our instructor told us that it is exactly like real skydiving and in fact, it is where skydivers do all of their training. I was surprised at how difficult it was, which made me even more impressed that Ivy did so well!

It was nothing like we have ever done before and we are all very grateful for the experience. Absolutely Mindblowing!

A Child-Friendly World

I recently started a program in my community called, Child-Friendly Valley in which I visit local businesses and share how they can become more child-friendly in various ways. As a mother of four, there are many times in which I notice that bathrooms, for example, do not accommodate children. I also educate about greeting and treating children respectfully like adults in local businesses. It is one of my passions to promote and educate about the rights and respect that children deserve and what better way than to promote this in my own community?

This is one reason why we fell in love with Disney World after the first time we visited. It is like a magical world where kids are respected and honored and every where you go, there is child-sized toilets, sinks, silverware, tables and chairs. We love this about Disney and I don't know any other place on earth filled with such reverence for children.

Here is a picture of a child's sink in the bathroom at Boma, in the Animal Kingdom Lodge, which is just one of thousands of locations where kids were people too.

Radical Friendship

We lead a very unique life which includes having friends in every state and many countries all over the World. We are invited to visit friends often, which feeds our soul and desire for connection with other Radical Unschooling families.

During our trip to Florida we met with my friends, Josha, Marcelle and Robin and their amazing families. Devin and Tiff were in their bliss playing games, sharing hugs and simply *Being* with others who live life like they do in such a free and respected way.

Traveling Sleepers

Traveling for 3 weeks in an RV is quite an experience. You get used to the smaller spaces and an RV is truly a second home for us.

The kids are just as comfortable and at home in the RV as they are at their home in Madison, NH. It's really great because you can bring everything you want because there is so much storage space.

The kids take naps on the road a lot. I guess it has to do with the motion of the motor home as it's cruising down the highway.

I am so grateful for our RV and the places we've visited and people we have met. As it says on our RV licence plate, LYFROKS (life rocks)

Ivy's Birthday Princess Makeover at Disney World

My Mom wanted to give Ivy a Princess Makeover at the Bibbity Boppity Boutique at Disney World for her 4th Birthday. Ivy loved every minute of being pampered and made into a princess. It was a really special experience for her and one of the highlights of our trip.
