Sad Passport Photos

Have you ever been told not to smile for a photo? Well, this is just what we had to deal with taking our passport pictures. The passport agency was very specific about not smiling. I am not sure why. All I know is, we had a blast trying to get some photos with serious looks on our faces. It was really funny. We had to take so many to get one without a smirk, or smile. Ivy just couldn't look serious, as much as we tried to explain it to her. Hopefully they take it anyway.

I told Joe his looks like it should be on a "Wanted" poster. How sad looking, huh? We

  1. Ha! I have to say we looked shell shocked in our photos as well. I always refer to us as the ugly americans, lol!

  3. Good to know I'm not the only with dubious looking passport pix *L* We're not 'allowed' to smile either (in Malaysia) which makes it really difficult & I always end up with deer-in-headlights stare!
Love your blog by the way, & your Youtube stuff; looking forward to meeting you in July at the unschooling conference in London.

  4. oh those are so sad that they're kind of funny. what a wonderful life you all lead that you have a hard time not smiling!

for my husband's work id (nypd) he was told not to smile. i won't go into the reason here (its not pleasant) but his photo looks like a wanted poster in a cop uniform. LOL

  5. Dina... that is why I posted these pictures, because they crack me up. Devin was cracking up and I told him to think of something sad... He said, "Ok, drowning puppies... drowning puppies." We couldn't stop laughing!! Not at the drowning puppies, but because he said that... it was so cute, yet twisted... lol

  6. Oh man, I just can't look at Devin's picture without laughing.... He really looks like he is thinking about poor drowning puppies, doesn't he? He looks like he is ready to cry.. He loves animals so much, he knows that is the one thing that would make him really sad.

  13. These photos make me want to cry and giggle all at once.

I heard about the new no smile passport photos. Supposedly smiles mess up photo recognition software.
